Alpharetta Fire Travel Program
Travel softball is for the most dedicated softball players and their families. The expectations of players and coaches should exceed those of players and coaches found at the Recreational or All-Star level. There are additional practice requirements, and a higher level of financial expense associated with participation, and often an expectation of private coaching in addition to team practices. Alpharetta Fire travel teams playing out of North Park and affiliated with AYSA are well known for high quality play, focus on fundamentals, high caliber coaching, and commitment to player development. We seek to build complete players, students in the classroom, and members of the community. Participation on an Alpharetta Fire team is an honor.
Some things expected of families if rostered on an Alpharetta Fire team...depending on the Head Coach...
- 2 to 3 practices a week
- 2 to 4 Fall tournaments
- 10 - 12 Spring/Summer tournaments
- Travel. Tournaments can be 30 minutes to several hours away.
- Higher cost. Budgets set by Head Coach and can range from 1300 to 2000 dollars a year.
- Players are expected to take weekly private hitting lessons.
- Pitchers and Catchers are also expected to take weekly private lessons.
- Travel is a meritocracy. No player is guaranteed playtime. The players that show up and give 100 percent at all practices and games are the ones that usually find themselves on the field and in the lineup.
- Rosters are usually around 12 players with perhaps 1 or 2 alternate players. Players are evaluated by the travel Commissioner and the AYSA Commissioner. The Commissioners then meet with the Head Coach and discuss performance. The Coach then makes his selections and offers roster spots. If a player declines, the next person on the list is then offered the spot.
- Any player playing travel ball, whether Alpharetta Fire or a different organization, are not permitted to play in Rec or All - Star programs.
Alpharetta Fire and AYSA are NOT affiliated with any independent travel organization.
